EXT. PEPPERDINE NORTH ENTRANCE -- DAY

The small, stucco guard shack sits under a big, shady tree like an old-timer watching traffic. Behind the booth, the Pepperdine drive begins a slow climb toward the athletic fields, barely visible behind a row of huge palm trees. Further up the steep mountainside, looming down over the highway like a prison camp tower, the Pepperdine obelisk casts a long shadow across the Pacific Coast Highway, looking very much like the Washington Monument [INT pass / fail]. The administration building can be seen on the other side of campus, near the obelisk.

The guard looks down out of the shack at you with an expectant look on his face.
